Watch: Ted Talk: Seth Godin - Tribes We Lead

This is one of the most important talks on Brand Leadership. Seth Godin is the modern day Godfather of Brand Leadership. I love listening to his talks, reading his blog and his books. His approach is refreshing, relatable and quite practical.

This specific talk is based on his book Tribes...He calls upon us to start and lead movements as technology has made it easier to create global virtual communities. Your brand should lead a movement in order for it to be fully embraced.

In this talk he states that we should ask ourselves the following when forming a tribe/movement:

  • Who are we upsetting?
  • Who are we connecting?
  • Who are we leading

I hope you enjoy the talk as much as I did and get something out of it too.

Get yourself a copy of Tribes on Amazon or any book store.

Luxury Champagne Campaign: The Stories Behind My Favourite Champagne Brands

Lily Bollinger was once asked " When do you drink champagne?",  and she replied:  “I only drink champagne when I'm happy, and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory.  I trifle with it if I am not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty.” In the words of Madame Bollinger, champagne does not need an occasion and I believe it to be true. Once you fall in love with it, you will not be a fan of anything else…unless you are me; I love a good glass of Pinot Noir too. The aspect that makes luxury brands stand out are the stories behind the brands. Story-telling is a major component of brand building when it comes to luxury brands; it is no longer about convincing a consumer to make the purchase but to rather be a part of the story. The stories behind brands such as Dom PĂ©rignon and my personal favourite, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin are ones that warm my heart....

(image source: https://thewishfactor.wordpress.com) " I am the dream and the hope of the slave. "- Maya Angelou Maya Angelou's poem Still I Rise makes me think of the struggles of yesteryear and how the youth had sacrificed their childhoods and dreams in order for us to be free and achieve our wildest dreams and greatest ambitions. It is no secret that " it is not yet uhuru " but with the youth of today leading an economic revolution through entrepreneurship and representation in corporate SA, the future is bright. Below is a list of young movers and shakers who excite and inspire me (in no particular order). I follow some of them on social media and know some of them personally. All of them are definitely putting our country on the world map and it’s heartwarming to follow their stories and successes. Representation matters. Seeing young people self-actualize inspires other young people to do the same. After all... “we are the ones...
